About Afghan Family Guidance Association |AFGA

Afghan Family Guidance Association (AFGA) is an Afghan non-governmental, not-for-profit and non-political organization established in 1968. AFGA has been working in the field of Reproductive health and Rights since its inception and has recently become an associate member of the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF).

AFGA activities were suspended due to war and conflict in the country for ten years (1992-2002) and resumed its activities in 2002 with financial support from International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF).

IPPF is an alliance of 151 family planning associations known as Member Associations which has projects in over 180 countries. IPPF continues to be the largest civil society provider of reproductive health information and services in the world.

Job Description

Responsibilities of Gyn/Obstetrics Specialist includes but not limited to regular check-up of admitted patients and completion of its history, physical examination, laboratory investigation management and treatment, participation in in-service training and training of new employees and trainees.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive gynecological care to female patients, including routine exams, screenings of patients, treatment of gynecological conditions, and management of reproductive health
  • History taking, completion and maintain accurate medical records for admitted patients.
  • Perform complete physical examination of patients as per their need.
  • Advice, completion and accurate interpretation of laboratory, sonology and radiology exams according to patient’ needs and relevant guidelines and forms.
  • Conduct regular patient visit as needed and instructed by ward In-charge.  
  • Make accurate diagnosis, and treatment of gynecological issues in consideration to history, physical exam and laboratory exam findings. such as abnormal uterine bleeding, pelvic pain, sexually transmitted infections, endometriosis, uterine fibroids, and more.

 

  • Advice and manage treatment of admitted patients as per diagnosis and patient’s needs. Counsel patients on contraception, family planning, sexuality, and menopausal care.

 

    • Ensure that the required minor gynecological procedures are applied for patients.
  • Counseling, managing and follow up of critically ill patients according to patient health status. Coordinate care with other specialists (e.g. oncologists, reproductive endocrinologists) as needed.
  • Provide prenatal care, including routine checkups, monitoring fetal development, and managing any high-risk conditions.
  • Attend and manage labor and delivery, performing C-sections and other obstetric procedures as needed
  • Provide postpartum care, including monitoring the mother's recovery and the newborn's health
  • Educate mothers on pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum care, and newborn care
  • Assist in data collection according to data collection method and tools.
  • Participate actively in the training of new employees and trainees.
  • Follow up of specific standards, protocols, procedures, rules and regulations according to MoPH guidelines during daily works.
  • Stay up-to-date on knew knowledge, latest medical research and participate in training session assigned for.
  • Provide preventive and primitive counseling in ward to the patients and clients
  • Attend Night shift duty when assigned.
  • Participate actively in the infection prevention committee and other committee for support and implements of ward and hospital.
  •  Perform other related tasks assigned by line manager and hospital director.
  • Respect all rules and regulations of the AFGA and adhere safeguarding policy
  • She will report to the line supervisor.

 

Job Requirements

  • Medical Degree attested by MoHE.
  • Specialization degree in Gyn/Obs attested by MoPH.
  • 3-5 years of post-residency experience practicing as an Obstetrician-Gynecologist
  • Comprehensive experience providing a full range of obstetric and gynecologic care, including routine and high-risk pregnancies, gynecological surgeries, Cesarian Sections and outpatient women's health services
  • Strong communication, and inter personal skills.
  • Good interaction and pleasant behavior with patients, clients and colleagues.
  • Very good knowledge of Pashto, Dari and English Language (written and spoken)
